- EAA Sportair RV Builders Class
I attended this class up in Oshkosh, WI. I arrived on Friday afternoon, so I
went to
EAA museum. It was the first
time I had been, even though I have been to AirVenture twice. I highly recommend
it!
Information on the Sportair workshops can be found on their
website.

Who is that on the right? That's right - the man, the myth, the legend - Dan Checkoway.
He was the instructor for the course and did a bang-em-up job. Yours truly is the
bald dude next to Dan.
The class began with a short introduction to tools, construction methods, materials.
The bulk of the class focused on creating a small section of a control surface.
We used all of the riveting methods in constructing the airfoil - shooting and bucking,
back riveting, and squeezing. We also learned dimpling, drilling, and deburring.

Here we are inspecting Dan's handiwork. A great looking airplane. If you haven't
been to his site, check out
www.rvproject.com.
I enjoyed the class thoroughly and thought that it was well worth the money. The
techniques I learned will no doubt save me money in the long run.
