17 Dec 07 - Bent Trailing Edge - 1.0 Hour
I have been battling for a while with the cold
in the shop and specifically, how to heat it. I would like to install a gas shop
heater that will warm the entire shop, but that will cost quite a bit of money,
so I elected to get a temporary solution until a more permanent one can be found.

I came up with this Kerosene heater from Home Depot for around $125.00. Oklahoma
recently had a huge ice storm followed by long power outages. This should help if
it happens again. This heater can be used indoors and does not require ventilation.
I can tell it won't be powerful to heat the entire shop, but with it only a few
feet away it definately takes away the immediate chill.
After the heater was nice and toasty I assembled my homemade bending brake as called
for in the plans. I used a 2x8 and two door hinges. I just put the two pieces of
2x8 together and screwed in the hinges. I didn't introduce any artificial spacing
between the boards. What I found is that even with the trailing edge all the way
against the hinges, the bend was still not sufficient. I rectified this by gently
using the hand seamers to bend the edge some more. This quickly made the bend sufficient
for the skeleton to fit the skin without any pressure. This will prevent cracking
of the rudder skin.
The trailing edge seems very straight
to my eyes but I will check it more extensively next time.

The rudder clecoed to the skeleton.
