24 MAR 08 - Drilled Right Elevator Understructure and Skin - 1.0 Hours
I assembled the understructure of the
right elevator and then drilled in accordance with the instructions. After the understructure
is drilled, the skin is clecoed on and the WD-605-1-R elevator horn is drilled to
the understructure. (
edit: be careful to ensure the alignment of the holes on the
horn is correct, especially with regard to the root rib. The flange of the root
rib may need to be formed slightly to get a better alignment. Many builders have
noted problems in this regard. I ended up with about half of the holes slightly
oblong, and I had to add some extra rivets to compensate for this.)
Next, the skin is final drilled #40. I use the reamer for all prepunched holes now.
I also had time to dimple the forward edge of E-713 for the counterweight and countersink
the counterweight accordingly, but I didn't take a picture of that. I'm sure if
you try hard enough you can imagine what it looks like.
