toad's RV-8

As of 16 SEP 07, my shop is basically complete. I have a 3 car garage, of which 2 spots are going to be used for airplane construction. The other is off limits to airplane stuff - the wife's parking area! I have a total of 4 work benches: 2 EAA Standard, 1 built from plans on Plansnow.com with a solid core door used as a top, and 2 cheapies from Home Depot that use angle iron and MDF core for the surfaces. I also installed a writing surface/desk from 3/4" plywood that was left over from the EAA workbench project.

Compressed Air: Served by a 60 gallon upright compressor from Home Depot. There are multiple drops throughout the shop, including one drop that has a dessicant filter for water vapor removing, which I will use to paint/prime.

Electrical: I installed an electrical subpanel because the main had no remaining open spaces. I wired 220 for the compressor and installed additional outlets throughout.

Floor: I installed a 2-part solvent based epoxy-coating.

Lighting: I installed 6 fluorescent 4' lights, each with 4 T8 bulbs. They provide plenty of light in the garage.

Tools: RV-Builders Kit from Planetools.com, most bench equipment from Sears.

The finished product: EAA workbenches on the left, Solid-Core door workbench in the middle, and in the far right are the MDF cheapos.
